Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society (CVIMS) is a non-profit settlement organization located in Nanaimo, B.C., Canada. Established in 1979, CVIMS provides support to newcomers and refugees. Services include settlement, employment, family, language and community programs. Job Summary:
The Childcare Assistant supports Early Childhood Educators in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children. This role involves assisting with daily routines, supervising activities, and contributing to the overall development and well-being of children in the program. The Childcare Assistant works collaboratively with staff and families to ensure high-quality care and learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the ECE Childminding Head with implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum for children aged 12 months to 5 years.
Comply with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, and Child Care Licensing Regulation.
Develop friendly and supportive relationships with CVIMS teams, children and families.
Become familiar with and meet program objectives.
Guide and assist children in the development of the whole child.
Facilitate a supportive emotional environment in the playroom for children.
Assist with set up and clean up of the facility as needed.
Maintain attendance records.
Follow CVIMS reporting protocols for incidents.
Responsible for actively communicating with team regarding availability.
Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings and group trainings, as requested.
Perform other related duties as requested by Team Lead or Director of CVIMS.
Required Education and Certifications:
Responsible Adult Certification
First Aid Level 1 with CPR C
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check on file with CVIMS
English language level minimum CLB 5
Preferred Jobs Skills and Abilities:
2 years experience in a daycare / childcare setting.
Fluency in a second language would be an asset.
Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds is valued.
Mother Goose and / or Nobody’s Perfect certifications.
Accountable individual who adheres to agency polices and procedures.
Attitudes and values in keeping with the CVIMS vision and goals.
Additional Information:
Travel within Nanaimo Regional District may be required. Occasional travel to locations in other parts of British Columbia and/or Canada for purposes like professional development, networking, or conferences may also be required.
Some work outside of regular office hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required. Flex time schedules will be made to accommodate non-regular work hours. All overtime must be approved in advance.
This is a casual position with a varied schedule based on organizational needs.
