Work Environment:
This position is Office Based; Mississauga, Ontario.
Working Hours: This role will work on a rotational shift basis across different shifts between the hours of 7am and 6pm. Total 37.5 actual working hours per week, or 7.5 hours per day (not including lunch). You will be entitled to 1 hour unpaid lunch break per day, hence the full working day is 8.5 hours per day or 42.5 hours per week.
It may be requested to work overtime and weekends for special program events as required
This internship will begin in July and will run until the end of August 2025 with possibility for extension.
About This Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our Digital Pathology Laboratory team in Toronto. This is a great opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in life sciences, healthcare, or information technology to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory support setting. As a Lab Support Intern, you will assist with the accessioning and digitization of pathology slides, data entry, and basic technical support duties. This internship provides a chance to learn about digital pathology workflows and contribute to meaningful work in a regulated laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the receipt, accessioning, scanning, and digitization of stained specimen slides for pathologist review
Support data entry and transcription tasks with a strong attention to detail
Help maintain clinician and patient case records in compliance with data protection protocols
Prepare and organize materials for return to referring laboratories
Conduct basic quality checks of digital slides before upload
Help maintain documentation and scanning logs
Respond to basic inquiries via phone, email, or support ticket under supervision
Support technical troubleshooting and documentation of issues as appropriate
Escalate more complex problems to senior team members
Participate in training on CAP/Accreditation Canada regulations and internal quality standards
Follow all lab safety procedures and health & safety guidelines
What We’re Looking For
Current student or recent graduate in a life sciences, healthcare, or IT-related field
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Interest in learning laboratory operations and healthcare processes
Basic computer skills and willingness to learn technical troubleshooting
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated, dependable, and eager to contribute in a team environment
Ability to manage time and tasks effectively in a dynamic setting
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
Coursework or experience in biology, pathology, or IT support
Familiarity with digital imaging or laboratory information systems
Exposure to healthcare or regulated environments (e.g., CAP, Accreditation Canada, ISO standards)
Experience with document management systems
