Overview
This position is a dual role as a Roads Maintainer Sanitation on an assigned sanitation crew in the summer; and as Roads Maintainer winter maintenance duties as assigned in the winter.
Hours of work:
Summer hours (Roads Maintainer Sanitation): Monday – Friday 3PM to 11PM
Winter hours (Roads Maintainer): will coincide with Winter Job Pool selection
Responsibilities
Responsibilities as a Roads Maintainer Sanitation – Summer:
Cleans garbage and debris from streets, sidewalks and alleys in the Downtown core, as well as on City & Regional roadways, city-owned property, bush & dense bush areas and parkland, by hand and by operating street and sidewalk sweepers, garbage compactor truck, Roll-Off truck and various other equipment.
Acts as first-responder to calls related to spills, sharps, biohazards, debris, and police assistance for vehicular accident cleanups.
Monitors and replenishes job-related supplies through stockroom (e.g., multizorb, sharps and safety kits, garbage bags)
Operates sidewalk sweeper through designated route in the Downtown core to clean sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and parking stalls.
Operates street sweeper to clean city and regional roadways. Monitors gauges to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
Responsibilities as a Roads Maintainer - Winter:
Snow Removal: Drives single/dual axle dump truck (tandem) with plow, wing, a variety of salters, and anti-icing (e.g., City streets, parking lots) to remove and haul snow, makes salt brine, operate sidewalk plow, shovel snow.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
Valid DZ driver's license in good standing.
Successfully complete required progressional criteria as it relates to this job title.
Able to obtain Dump Truck Permit no later than 3 months after hire date.
Must be willing to work shifts and be available for winter call outs, including overtime as required.
Demonstrated communication skills with an ability to keep accurate written records.
Able to participate as an effective team member.
Must be available for winter call outs as required.
Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
