We are currently looking to add a Divisional Controller to our team. Reporting to the Director, Divisional Accounting, this position is based out of our Edmonton, AB office.
This position works closely with the Project Accountants and Project Managers in maintaining project controls and is responsible for budget management, financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards and company policies, performing project analytics and assisting in the month end processes of the company.
Responsibilities:
Reporting
Facilitate clear communication between finance and other departments to ensure alignment on financial goals and objectives
Prepare monthly business unit statements, financial review information and annual business unit budgets and assist business unit managers in the financial planning processes
Together with management, hold monthly business reviews with each business unit and report to the executive team.
Provide analysis and support to business unit managers to ensure understanding of business unit statements and financial implications of business decisions
Perform monthly divisional profit/revenue recognition, develop and analyze monthly cost reporting, and project forecasts
Maintain tracking of intercompany billings and accruals for internal charges according to corporate accounting standards
Monitor, review, forecast and reconcile project budgets, holdback accounts, and invoices
Prepare, organize and review financial documents and records required for internal and external audits, ensuring they are accurate
Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and internal policies/controls
Project Life Cycle
Provide support and oversight on a portfolio of projects with multiple Project Managers across the organization
Provide expertise to PM's through the financial lifecycle of a project, from setup, monitoring, updating and closing
Open, create and maintain project's financial structure, revenue, and cost budgets
Organize and facilitate mid-month PO review meetings with project managers, buyers and receivers in order to maintain accurate open commitments
Work with project management team to review weekly or bi-weekly job reports by work order from JD Edwards along with analysis of job level indirect costs.
Organize and facilitate month end cost accrual meetings with the PM, buyer and receivers in order to gather and enter cost accrual information
Work with PM to update contract value file including all approved change and documentation of all unapproved change being pursued
Set-up and run job meetings with the Project Manager to review costs and revise forecast
Prepare margin analysis comments for monthly vs job to date results
Provide training and support to Project Managers on financial processes and tools
Post-Secondary Diploma in a related field
Bachelor's or Master’s degree is considered an asset
5-7 years progressive experience in the construction industry
Proven General Accounting experience
Experience with JD Edwards or SAP is preferred
Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency
Advanced experience with Job Costing Management, Project Analytics, and WIP Reporting
Experience with Job Structure Set-up, Project Forecasting and Budgeting
Strong understanding of Construction Revenue Recognition principles
Strong attention to detail to maintain organized financial records and ensure accuracy
