The Safety Specialist develops, prepares, and oversees processes, procedures and manuals to ensure workplace safety. In this role, you will assist line managers with the control of hazards in the workplace and provide guidance on eliminating and reducing risk. Lead and Support Event Investigations. Develop Actions that provide long term sustainability for Safety and Quality supporting our Nuclear Safety Pillars The successful candidate will promote all Bruce Power Safety standards, policies, processes, practices and will drive safety initiatives across site. Being able to lead and influence others is important to be successful in this role This is a term position which may be for a period of up to 60 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is located on-site in Tiverton, Ontario. What will you be responsible for? This position is required to support Conventional Safety by providing technical services related to specified safety programs. Develop and implement designated Safety Management programs at Bruce Power Ensuring sustained and improved program performance through: ongoing assessment/oversight, problem solving, development of objectives and targets, and development/maintenance of long-term plans Providing technical support for Safety Management programs, such as those related to : conventional safety hazards, OHSA, industrial hygiene and ergonomics Consult with and advise Line Organizations engaged in planning, design, development and installation or implementation of systems or programs involving hazard controls Assessing, evaluating and recommending alternatives and actions in the resolution of Safety Management issues Review, compile, analyze and interpret data from accident and loss event reports and other sources regarding injuries and illnesses Interacting with regulatory authorities on safety issues and prepare reports and other required documentation Prepare specifications and recommendations for the purchase of materials, services and equipment Participating in the development of training programs Performing activities in support of implementation and maintenance of the Safety Management system Lead and Support Event Investigations. Develop Actions that provide long term sustainability for Safety and Quality supporting our Nuclear Safety Pillars Knowledge and Skills The successful candidate must possess the following attributes and skills: Knowledgeable in the areas of conventional safety, industrial hygiene, and ergonomics Provide expertise and services in the major areas relating to the protection of people Anticipate, identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices Develop hazard control designs, methods, procedures and programs Implement, administer and advise others on hazard control programs Measure, audit and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard control programs Knowledge/experience in one or more areas of: Health & Safety regulations; standards, industry practice, due diligence, loss prevention/control, risk management Effective analytical skills Strong mathematical and report writing skills Excellent verbal and written communications skills Ability to interface effectively with operations/technical staff, regulators and other stakeholders Education and Experience: This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through a university degree in Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics or equivalent; and A period of over 6 years and up to 8 years relevant experience is considered necessary Are you ready for a change?
