Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Social Services, The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering a variety of recreational programs and community events that promote wellness, engagement, and leadership for all age groups. This role involves supervising youth staff and overseeing the use of facilities and equipment. The coordinator also supports communication efforts with community members, policy development, and funding initiatives to enhance the overall quality and impact of recreational services.
Recreation Programming – Key Responsibilities
Develop and run inclusive recreational programs and special events for all age groups, including camps, clubs, sports, and special events such as Indigenous Peoples Day, Children’s Christmas Party, Winter Carnival, and annual volunteer appreciation events.
Promote community involvement through volunteer opportunities and leadership development.
Maintain clear communication with community members through calendars, updates, and feedback channels.
Collaborate with other departments or programs to support and enhance current programming.
Ensure recreation spaces and equipment are clean, organized, and regularly maintained.
Supervise recreation staff and youth workers, recruit, train, and support volunteers and coaches.
Promote sportsmanship and leadership among youth staff and community members.
Participate in training and support accreditation and quality improvement efforts.
Assist in grant writing and help develop recreation-related policies and procedures.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
A college diploma in Recreation or Social Services related field is preferred
Clear understanding of policies and procedures that outline behaviours to promote client safety.
First Aid & CPR Certification
Valid Class G Ontario Drivers License
Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector check
Ability to work flexible hours when necessary
