The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Research Coordinator position. This Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Tavis Campbell.
The Research Coordinator will be part of the Behavioural Medicine Lab and primarily responsible for coordinating and assisting on a project investigating a web-based intervention for individuals with atrial fibrillation.
The Research Coordinator demonstrates an interest in clinical psychology and behavioural medicine. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Coordinator utilizes knowledge of research methods in the detailed development, planning, coordination, and implementation of high-impact research projects involving adult participants with chronic health conditions (e.g., obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer).
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Responds to email requests from team members in a timely manner (i.e., 1-2 days unless on vacation).
- Has consistent working hours during the week (to be agreed upon and discussed with the PI).
- Schedules, facilitates, and coordinates monthly lab meetings with graduate students, research staff and the PI.
- Ensures participant recruitment and retention in ongoing studies.
- Informs participants of study risks/benefits, data security, and collects consent.
- Maintains collaborative working relationships with healthcare providers (e.g., psychologists, nurses, dietitians, clerks, etc.).
- Serves as a person of contact for study participants, addressing questions and concerns, if any.
- Writes, modifies, and manages new and ongoing REBs through IRISS.
- Delivers protocol-related assessments and evaluations to achieve all study-related outcomes in an accurate, effective, and timely manner.
- Coordinates follow-ups assessments (e.g., 3-months to 5-years).
- Collaborates and consults with the Principal Investigator, co-investigators, and graduate students.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and complete documentation, records, and databases.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Completed an Honours bachelor level education in an applicable field (e.g., Psychology, Community Health Sciences, Medicine) or equivalent experience.
- Experience with REDCap and clinical trials is a strong asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and leadership ability.
- Certified through Tri-Council Policy Statement research ethics standards and through Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board (CHREB) requirements (i.e., TCPS-2 CORE).
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and understand limits to confidentially.
- Completion of relevant coursework (i.e., PSYC 300/301¿Research Methods and Data Analysis in Psychology).
- Highly developed organizational skills and the ability to anticipate needs, plan, organize and coordinate.
- Demonstrated ability to function independently and within a team environment.
- Effective ability to multitask and adapt to change (e.g., shifting priorities).
- Experience with a variety of techniques for gathering and documenting data.
- Open to learning and willing to accept new challenges and assignments.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint). Skills with MS SharePoint is an asset.
- Experience with SPSS statistical software, data analysis, and reporting results is a great asset.
- Two or more years of research experience in health psychology or behavioural medicine would be a great asset.
- Completion of PSYC 411¿Design and Analysis in Psychological Research and/or PSYC 415¿Qualitative Inquiry in Psychology is a great asset.
- A valid Class 5 driver¿s license (cannot be a graduated license) with proven good driving record (abstract required).
- Previous experience working with vulnerable populations is an asset.
