GFL Ayr Linehaul division is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager, Transportation Safety, to lead our transportation compliance and safety initiatives across Ontario into the United States. This role plays a pivotal leadership function in shaping, driving, and enforcing regulatory compliance strategies for our growing Linehaul operations. As a key member of the leadership team, you will champion safety culture, ensure operational alignment with federal and provincial/state transportation regulations, and foster continuous improvement across business units. Reporting to the Director of Linehaul, you will collaborate cross-functionally with Compliance, Fleet, Safety, and Operations leaders to standardize processes, mitigate risks, and enhance fleet performance while maintaining full regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities: Provide strategic direction in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of corporate transportation safety and compliance frameworks across operations. Lead the creation and ongoing enhancement of policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure adherence to national (Transport Canada, FMCSA) and provincial/state regulations. Maintain oversight of all compliance documentation and programs, including driver qualifications, Hours of Service (HOS), vehicle inspections and maintenance, and Drug & Alcohol Testing (as required). Design and implement comprehensive training programs for drivers, supervisors, fleet managers, and senior operational leaders, focusing on compliance, safety protocols, and legislative updates. Serve as the primary point of contact and representative for interactions with regulatory agencies (e.g., Ministry of Labour, Transport Canada). Lead enterprise-level risk assessments and compliance audits to evaluate regulatory performance, identify gaps, and direct corrective action plans. Leverage data from telematics platforms (e.g., GPS, ISAAC systems) to monitor compliance with HOS regulations and proactively address driver behavior concerns. Collaborate with Safety and Operations teams to conduct root cause analysis of incidents, ensure regulatory reporting, and embed corrective actions into operational workflows. Champion safety initiatives designed to enhance performance metrics such as CSA and NSC scores, while minimizing violations and enhancing driver accountability. Work closely with Fleet Maintenance teams to ensure all vehicles meet or exceed safety and compliance standards under federal and provincial/state guidelines. Skills & Competencies: Deep expertise in transportation compliance frameworks, including Transport Canada, MTO, FMCSA and applicable provincial/state regulations. Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders. Proven experience in developing enterprise-level safety and compliance strategies, with the ability to translate regulatory requirements into operational action. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively represent the organization with both internal and external stakeholders. Analytical mindset with a strong command of data interpretation and problem-solving in high-risk, high-volume environments. Results-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing complex programs, audits, and regulatory timelines.
