Job Description: Reporting directly to the Manager of International Student Integration, the incumbent will serve as the key support to registered and current international learners studying at Algonquin College campuses. The incumbent provides support in converting international paid/registered to international learners in seat post day 10, through orientation activities, communications, and other tools as identified. The incumbent helps plan, develop and deliver services and programs, such as cultural adjustment programming and orientation resources, based upon “best practices” which relate to international learners to support retention, integration, success and engagement. The incumbent advises and supports international learners with personal, academic and financial challenges; providing crucial immigration advice, and referrals while advocating on behalf of international learners to the wider college community, assisting academic and other services areas of the college in their ability to meet international learner needs. The incumbent provides immigration advice to international learners, ensuring their knowledge and understanding of immigration policies, practices, and legislation are current, and that learners are aware of impacts of policies, practices and legislations on their status in Canada. The incumbent will work as part of a team, providing support to the other ISAs in the department, when necessary. The incumbent will be provided Errors and Omissions Insurance by Algonquin College as required to maintain RCIC/RISIA designation. The incumbent provides support to develop, plan and implement a multi-faceted strategy to support international learners and their unique challenges, as they are not familiar with Canadian norms and culture, to support retention and success; this includes support with financial matters, academics and other personal support. The incumbent monitors International learners’ progress and plans strategies to help the learner succeed. The incumbent offers support services to make learners feel welcome and to support learners to succeed in their stay and studies at Algonquin College while adapting to Canadian culture. The incumbent works closely with the Intercultural Programming Coordinator to administer programs in support of integration and retention. Required Qualifications: Minimum of a three (3) year diploma or degree in International Business/Public Relations/Marketing/Humanities with International focus, or related; Certification as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant or Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor, in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants; A minimum of three (3) years’ practical advising experience with International learners, refugee claimants or newcomers to Canada; Experience working with and providing services to International learners and/or newcomers in transition; such as experience delivering presentations, developing and delivering learner adjustment/success programs, assisting newcomers or international learners to navigate their new environment; Experience with customer management and student learning management tools; Experience using and manipulating Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other administration tools, including virtual webinar and meeting tools; High level of computer competency and familiarity with a range of social media platforms; Proficiency in a second language considered an asset.
