Job Title: Oyster Technician (Seasonal)

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT
We’koqma’q First Nation is seeking 2 (two) motivated and dependable Oyster Technicians to support our aquaculture operations. This seasonal role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, have a strong work ethic, and are passionate about sustainable fisheries. As an Oyster Technician, you will be directly involved in the cultivation, maintenance, and harvesting of oysters, contributing to the success of our community’s aquaculture initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with all stages of oyster farming, including seeding, planting, and monitoring oyster beds.
Participate in harvesting activities, ensuring proper handling and adherence to quality standards.
Collaborate with team members to meet production targets and maintain efficient operations.
Follow all safety protocols and operational guidelines while working on the farm and in the field.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Must be a registered member of the We’koqma’q First Nation.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience and knowledge of fisheries and small vessel operations is essential.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must possess and maintain a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license.
Must be physically able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in oyster ponds.
Willingness to work flexible hours as needed during the season.
