This position is for TH Citizens who face challenges and vulnerability with employment, with priority to those receiving Social Assistance.

The intended purpose of this position is to provide support and mentorship for sustainable meaningful employment, personal and professional skill development, participation and connection to TH culture, projects and initiatives as well as community connection through work-place relationship building. Reporting to the Tr’ëhudè Program Mentor, this position is responsible for carrying out a variety of routine maintenance, grounds keeping and labor tasks for identified TH properties, TH camp sites, camps, events and other general assigned tasks. These positions work with the Adult Learning & Employment Manager in developing skills for sustainable employment and succession planning within TH’s mentorship program(s) and/or the market employment sector. The position will also be supported to obtain required certifications to conduct a variety of tasks, such as chainsaw safety, ATV safety, basic maintenance and repair, First Aid etc.
An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:
Basic knowledge and/or a willingness to learn basic maintenance and repair practices.
Ability to receive and follow verbal direction and instruction.
Ability to adhere to a work schedule and maintain scheduled tasks and assignments.
Ability to follow and adhere to health and safety practices and assess environment for risk.
Ability to work collaboratively with peers, colleagues and community members at large.

Conditions of Employment:
Criminal Record Check.
Standard First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Certification in safety courses for ATV operation or willingness to obtain.
TDG and WHMIS or willingness to obtain.
Class 5 driver’s license with satisfactory driver’s abstract will be an asset.
Willingness to participate in and obtain other required certifications.
TH101 Cultural Awareness training.
Potential Skills to Be Gained:
Skills related to landscaping, carpentry, finishing work, plumbing, electrical etc.
Basic knowledge of operating power tools, equipment (chainsaws, ATVs), various machinery and vehicles.
Ability to set up and tear down for camps or other events, as per specific directions.
Enhanced knowledge of TH history, community and cultural traditions and practices.
Basic computer and administrative skills, such as filling out forms, submitting online requests, inventory and/or sending emails to peers and colleagues as needed.
Ability to demonstrate basic written and verbal communication.
Ability to demonstrate sustainable work ethics, be reliable and self-motivated.
Ability to organize, triage and prioritize tasks with support from Tr’ëhudè Program Mentor.
Ability to manage challenging situations and community conflicts.
