The Cook at We’koqma’q Day Care will play a vital role in ensuring that our children receive nutritious and appealing meals that support their growth and development. This position requires a commitment to food safety, creativity in meal planning, and a collaborative approach to working with daycare staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks for children, following dietary guidelines and any specific dietary restrictions.
Ensure all meals are prepared in a safe and hygienic manner, adhering to health and safety regulations.
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including regular cleaning of equipment and work areas.
Order and manage inventory of food supplies, ensuring freshness and quality.
Collaborate with daycare staff to create menus that are both appealing and nutritious for children.
Monitor and record food temperatures and storage conditions to ensure food safety.
Accommodate special dietary needs and allergies as required.
Assist in serving meals and snacks to children, ensuring portion control and presentation.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a daycare, school, or similar setting.
Possession of a valid food handling certification is required or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Knowledge of child nutrition and dietary requirements.
Ability to plan and prepare balanced meals that appeal to young children.
Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills and a positive attitude.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The Cook will work in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat, noise, and kitchen equipment.
The role requires standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
This individual will work a Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm schedule.
