Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and organized full-time Research Assistant to support research activities in our lab focused on early intervention in bipolar disorder / youth mental health. The successful candidate will play a central role in the coordination and implementation of two research projects. Organizational Status This position is based at the UBC Mood Disorders Centre within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia. The Research Assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Keramatian. Work Performed Assist in the development and submission of research protocols and ethics applications, like drafting, preparation of research protocols and ethics applications and compiling required documents. Support participant recruitment, consent, and retention activities, such as pre-screening, scheduling, obtaining informed consent, and maintaining follow-up communication with participants, with complex cases escalated to the principal investigator. Oversee data collection, database maintenance and documentation activities, ensuring accuracy. Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with research ethics and institutional policies. Assist in drafting and formatting progress reports, knowledge translation materials, and manuscripts, including preparing tables, figures, and initial text based on data and study documentation, with final review and direction provided by the principal investigator. Liaise with research partners, clinicians, and other stakeholders to arrange meetings, assessments and facilitate information and feedback sharing. Contribute to other administrative and research-related duties as required. Consequence of Error/Judgement Errors in this role can compromise the integrity of the research, affect the validity of study findings, and may pose risks to the safety, privacy, or well-being of research participants. Supervision Received Works under minimum supervision, receiving specific instructions only on unusual problems or on matters which depart significantly from established policy and procedure. Supervision Given May have supervisory responsibilities for volunteers or new research assistants. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own - Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Health Sciences, or a related field (Master’s degree or previous research experience preferred). Experience with human participant research and ethics submissions. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment. Familiarity with data management tools (e.g., REDCap, Excel) and basic statistical concepts is an asset. Interest in mental health or clinical research is strongly preferred.
