Projects emphasize the major social, technological, environmental, and symbolic aspects of the design process. Introduction to specific modeling, presentation, and documentation techniques. Discussions, readings, field trips and practical exercises. Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) Student Performance Criteria (SPC): A1, A5, A6, A7, A8 Theme: The theme of the Fall 2025 U2 studio is housing. The semester will be divided into two parts, each of which is based on a single project that explores different ideas about architecture, residential design, and the design process itself. In the first assignment, working individually, students will use design as a mechanism to explore narratives associated with concepts of home. In the second assignment, working in teams of two, students will develop detailed propositions for a high-density mixed-use housing project on a Montreal site. Studio structure: The course is taught in person. The class will be divided into three sections, each of which will work under the supervision of one of three instructors. Individual instructors may, from time to time, introduce specific topics for exploration and discussion within a section, but all three sections will work on the same site and according to the general course outline, learning objectives, schedule, and program described in the General Course Outline. Studio coordinator: Prof. David Covo.
