The Senior Manager, Private Markets Operations will oversee the accounting and administrative management of the end-to-end lifecycle of Global Credit and Private Equity portfolios of funds, co-investments and direct investments, and includes ongoing support of capital calls, distributions, valuations, financial statement review and investment reporting within a pooled and segregated fund environment. The Senior Manager is expected to provide subject matter expertise in strategic enterprise initiatives and work with the director to implement the target operating model for Private Markets Operations. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for supervising and mentoring members of the team, as well as collaborate with front office Investment teams and other internal stakeholders, such as Corporate Finance, to meet the needs of the portfolios, while fostering a continuous improvement culture, driving scalable operations and mitigating operational risk in support of increasingly complex private investment strategies. The role reports to the Director, Private Markets Operations. As a Member of Our Team, You Will be Responsible For: Strategic Partnership: Act as a strategic and trusted partner to the Global Credit and Private Equity investment teams. Operational Oversight: Ensure a strong control framework for investment-related activities. Project Leadership: Lead ongoing projects and initiatives, including requirements gathering, system configuration, data migration, testing/validation and change management. Process Improvement: Design, implement, and document processes, controls, and workflows to support investment transactions, accounting, and reporting. Continuous Improvement: Apply a continuous improvement mindset to evolve operations and processes, ensuring adoption and support of new processes and policies. Team Leadership: Provide senior leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the Private Markets Operations team. Financial Oversight: Oversee month-end and quarter-end accounting close processes, ensuring accuracy and resolving ad-hoc issues. Audit Support: Lead audit support for Financial Statements related to Global Credit and Private Equity pooling structures. Financial Reporting: Review and/or prepare financial statement note support and reporting schedules for year-end purposes. Valuation Coordination: Assist in coordinating quarterly private investments valuation reviews and present results to committees and clients. Request Management: Review and distribute routine and ad-hoc requests completed by team members. Lead team to troubleshoot issues and reach conclusion or resolution. Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with various stakeholders (e.g., Performance, Risk, IT System, Finance, Investment teams) to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Client Management: Manage and monitor client deliverables, ensuring reporting is accurate and timely. Relationship Management: Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, including new client setup and transitions. Client Liaison: Liaise with external clients to meet information and reporting requirements. Research and Analysis: Lead research and analysis of investment accounting treatment and apply accounting knowledge to potential changes. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. What do you need to succeed? A university degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related discipline is required. A relevant professional designation (CPA, CFA, CBV and/or AACI designation) is required. 10+ years of experience in investment management, with direct experience working in Investment Finance or Investment Operations. Experience in the asset management industry is preferred. 5+ years of strong leadership skills and supervisory experience managing a team. Strong knowledge of private investments is essential. Strong technical knowledge of accounting practices, principles, and internal control requirements, including knowledge of capital markets and financial instruments within the Private Equity and Global Credit asset classes. Thorough understanding of accounting standards (IFRS, Pension accounting) and best practices is required; experienced in reviewing and preparing general ledgers. Experience in managing accounting and reporting functions with daily, monthly and quarterly deliverables. Superior analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills are required to identify and recommend potential opportunities, coordinating and maintaining up to date information on returns and risks. Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment, creating and maintaining strong working relationships across team members from different functional areas and willingness to work toward required outcomes even when circumstances are challenging (e.g. tight deadlines, limited information or resources, uncertain outcomes, etc.) Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels and cultivate key partnerships to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as well as third-party administrators. Strong written communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues in a clear and compelling manner and present information to internal stakeholders. A desire to learn and become a value-add team member; hands on approach to problem solving in a proactive and collaborative manner. Experience with system implementation is an asset.
