DIETARY AIDE IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: DIRECTOR OF DIETARY SERVICES OR FOOD SERVICES SUPERVISOR POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the table set up, delivery and service of food and beverages for all meals provided. Dish and pot washing as well as general cleaning of kitchen and kitchenettes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In accordance with established policies of Albright Manor, and the standards and criteria as issued by the Ministry of Long Term Care, the Dietary Aide will: Complies with all provincial/long term care regulations and established Food Services department policies and procedures Assists in maintaining the Food Services department in a safe and sanitary manner. Aid the cook in the preparation and service of meals. Must be an effective team player that works well with others. Assists in the preparation and service of beverages, meal and dessert items, nourishment items and catering as assigned. Serves meals and beverages, following Residents’ diets and food preferences, using correct portion sizes. Knowledge of therapeutic diets. Prepare, portion, and organize daily snacks and beverages for delivery, following resident diet orders and safety protocols Deliver snacks to residents’ rooms or designated areas assisting residents as needed at scheduled times Ensure that the appropriate snacks are taken and delivered in a clean, attractive and timely manner Maintain accurate records of snack delivery, including refusals or changes in intake. Report any changes in residents’ appetite or ability to consume snacks to Nursing and Dietary Management. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of snack carts, equipment, and food storage areas Assist with basic kitchen duties as required (e.g. dishwashing, cleaning) Communicate effectively and respectfully with residents, families, and staff Assists in receiving and storing incoming food and supplies. Assists in monitoring quality of food and supplies received and advises Nutrition Manager of problems. Reports food, supply, and equipment needs to Nutrition Manager. Follows proper food handling techniques and infection control practices. Dates, labels, and stores food properly. Completes pre-start up equipment checks as necessary. Keeps work area clean, uncluttered and completes scheduled cleaning duties. Maintains cleanliness of floors in the food preparation, dish room, and storage areas. Meets scheduled meal and nourishment times. Uses equipment and supplies properly. Understands WHMIS and follows health and safety guidelines. Wears personal protective equipment as per MSDS Sets and cleans dining tables and trays. Delivers dietary carts to designated area Assists in dish and pan washing, storage and cleaning duties. Assists with maintaining the security of the department. Maintains floor areas safe while working, caution with water on floor Participates actively in special occasion and theme meal days. Alert Nutrition Manager or designate to concerns and makes recommendations about corrective action. Knowledgeable of, and practice, home’s fire safety and emergency programs. Follows and complies with health and safety legislation and department safe job procedures. Attends departmental and home’s staff meetings, in-services and other necessary training sessions. Assists in the orientation and training of new employees Maintains good attendance record according to Company policy. Is knowledgeable of the Resident’s Bill of Rights. Performs other duties as are necessary and appropriate. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Fast-paced healthcare environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals and food allergens. Regular interactions with elderly residents, including those with cognitive impairments Shifts include evenings, weekends, and holidaysQUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Must have successfully completed the food safety awareness program, offered by the board of health-public health food safety course. Preferences will be given to individuals who have experience in food services in either long term care or chronic/acute health care. Must be knowledgeable of the (Provincial) Ontario Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating. Must be able to read, write and accurately follow written and verbal instructions. Proficiency to be bilingual is an asset. Must be physically able to lift (up to 25 lbs) and transfer heavy, hot items, push carts and stand for majority of shift. There is much repetition in the tasks, must be able to organize time so to vary duties limiting repetitive movements. Knowledge of dietary restrictions, texture modifications, and food allergies is an asset.
