Position Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director, People, Talent, and Wellness, this position is responsible for the provision of employee relations expertise, advise, and services to meet Carewest’s people needs. Included in these responsibilities is leading collective bargaining processes and negotiating and maintaining essential service agreements with our unions.
The position oversees the grievance process, and guides and directs legal counsel in the presentation of arbitration and other legal matters for both unionized and non-union employees. Through the development and analysis of data, the role monitors trends and risks and identifies key issues and opportunities for improvement in our Labour Relations strategy. The role provides education in employee relations topics and skills to enable frontline managers to fulfill their duties. Responsible for other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- University degree in LR/HR or related field, or at minimum 10+ years’ experience in Labour Relations and/or Human Resources
- CPHR designation preferred
- Valid driver’s license is required
Experience:
• Experience in leading negotiations, or participation in bargaining table committees
• Extensive knowledge of employment and labour-related legislation, labour relations jurisprudence, principles, and practices, as well as working knowledge of the latest trends, developments and practices in Human Resources management
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills along with the proven ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, and discretion
• Advanced knowledge and demonstrated ability in dispute resolution, investigative methods, as well as negotiation, mediation and facilitation
• Demonstrated ability to develop individual relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders including lawyers, mediators, union leaders, internal business leaders, and HR Managers by establishing credibility and trust
