This role represents an exciting opportunity to influence the evolution of a comprehensive risk management culture within Canada Segment. The Manager, Operational Risk Management, is accountable for providing support to the AVP, Risk Management, in the day-to-day accountability for aspects of the Operational Risk Management program. The role requires pragmatic business judgment, technical subject matter expertise in risk management, and highly effective communication and influencing skills with colleagues at various levels and will encompass a variety of risk activities.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide second line of defense oversight by probing, challenging and assessing risk by applying risk expertise, strong relationship management and critical thinking skills.
Participation and assistance in preparing and/or coordinating the Business unit Risk Committee meetings.
Support a variety of risk management activities on an as-needed basis including risk assessments, oversight of operational risk standard compliance, reporting, and evolving risk identification and management.
Make recommendations for control and process improvements.
Identify, track and monitor risks, issues and corrective action plans as needed in collaboration with line 1 and 1b teams.
Take actions to foster a strong risk-awareness culture, including preparation and presentation of employee education programs.
Escalate risk concerns as required.
Ensure alignment with Manulife Financial group policies and best practices.
Support the ongoing collaboration of Risk Management with other oversight and assurance functions (e.g. Internal Audit, Compliance, Legal, Information Security etc.). Build and maintain a strong network of partners in Functional areas
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of financial services/insurance business and related products
Preferred 3-5 years of experience in operational risk management or a highly related field which may include roles in operations management, finance, third party risk, fraud, legal, audit, compliance, risk consulting etc.
Highly effective change agent who embraces change and leads change management;
Demonstrates a challenge mindset, providing oversight and challenge of risk mitigations where appropriate;
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills with an ability to negotiate, influence and collaborate for shared success and to build relationships with key partners and stakeholders;
Strong knowledge of risk management tools, techniques, and methodologies;
Team player who is adept at working in a matrix environment;
Self-starter with ability to work independently;
Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically

Salary range is expected to be between
$86,250.00 CAD - $155,250.00 CAD
