Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: This position seeks to cultivate relationships with youth and children in the Burnaby area to develop a sense of community connection, provide supportive programs for the community, and create invitational opportunities to both the gospel and the Salvation Army faith community at CHT. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Community Outreach Plans and gives oversight to child/youth related special events serving the community (e.g. Camp reunions, seasonal events, messy church etc.) Oversees weekly program groups connecting kids/youth to CHT. Creates safe and friendly spaces where the message of Jesus can be shared with others. Camping Ministries: Serves as a point person to help connect kids to TSA camping opportunities. Provides promotional material & help process applications and subsidy for camping. Cultivate ongoing connections with families connected to summer camp to create opportunities for participation in other relevant programming opportunities. Community Networking: Connect with local schools, churches and community service providers related to youth & children to assist in creating programs that compliment and fill gaps of service in the community. Establish and maintain communication with community networks to promote programs, make connections between youth and service providers, and have an awareness of emerging community needs. Curriculum Prep and Teaching: Plans and gives oversight to the weekly Kids Ministry programming Co-ordinate teacher schedules and manage curriculum distribution for each age group Administration Oversees management of budget. Maintains and frequently updates contact lists and statistics for kids programming. Participates in staff/corps/divisional meetings as required. Maintains ongoing communication with youth and parents via email, phone, social media. Contributes to CHT social media presence by creating promos and follow up related to kids ministry. Maintains the supply spaces for kids min and replenishes supplies as needed. Ensures the cleanliness and quality of kids min spaces by regularly surveying for health and safety risks making minor adjustments as needed and reporting more significant concerns to supervisor. Volunteer Oversight Identify, recruit, and give leadership to a team of volunteer kids min. leaders who teach children, engage them in service opportunities, and facilitate community outreach. Takes responsibility to ensure volunteers understand and represent both biblical & Salvation Army mission & values in the capacities they give leadership. Leads volunteer training and onboards new volunteers ensuring adherence to TSA abuse & safety policies for work with vulnerable sectors. Community Life The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the life of Cariboo Hill Temple as part of the worshipping congregation and will model and encourage kids participation in the worship experience. The successful candidate will be able to confidently teach the bible, pray with others, and introduce both kids and their families to Jesus as opportunity arises. MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY: Reports directly to: Corps Officer Direct reports for this position: None. May show others how to perform certain procedures Volunteer oversight FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: Minimal material responsibilities. Handles credit card with $1000 limit. The incumbent may make small program purchases within a predetermined budget. May occasionally organize fundraising events and handle associated cash in collaboration with finance team. WORKING CONDITIONS: Working environment is typically in the church, church office, or local community in generally agreeable conditions. Potential for home visitation or visiting families in a community setting. Rare travel and occasional scheduled overtime may be associated with this position. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of High School diploma. Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience working with children & youth Valid Drivers License an asset Competence in communication major social media platforms Comfortable learning and working with Microsoft office platforms Experience with Camping and Brave programs an asset Alternative combination of education and experience might be considered Skills and Capabilities: The incumbent will have good verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Strong classroom management skills with a love of kids/youth. Demonstrates a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus including growing knowledge of scripture and evidence of growing spiritual maturity. Teachable, flexible and adaptable Strong understanding and identification with The Salvation Army — its mission, culture, and values. Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public. Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions. Team oriented and able to take initiative. Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Self-motivated/disciplined, effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to motivate others and manage relationships. Ability to follow all MU's organizational policies and procedures. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $19.93 to $24.91 with a maximum of $29.89.
