Job Description: Role Specific Responsibilities: Inspect the building, includes washrooms, lounge rooms, resident rooms, common areas, for signs of damage and report to Support Services Manager. Inspect the building for burnt out lights and replace them as required. Perform repairs and maintenance as requested or assigned by Support Services Manager. Pressure wash front entrance and other areas, shovel and salt walkways as needed and requested. Work involves painting, cleaning, generic plumbing and other maintenance work Assist with contracted maintenance company for larger maintenance completion Assist with smaller projects. Ensure all duties assigned to shift are completed. Health and Safety: Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Work closely with staff, identifying any health and safety needs. Responsible for the following, work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations, use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer, report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer, and report workplace injuries or illness. Responsible to follow through on all health and safety procedures (including fire) as outlined in the policy and procedures manual. Monitor and report regularly any concern regarding adherence to the acceptable health standards and that physical property is maintained, arranging for repairs as necessary. Perform other position related duties as required. Critical Relationship Management: Internal: • Work in co-ordination with staff from all departments. • Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures, and in-service training. External: • Community, clients. Managerial/ Technical Leadership Responsibility: • This position reports directly to the Support Services Manager or designate. • The Maintenance Worker receives work assignments from the Support Services Manager. Working Conditions: • The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule. • Some travel is required. • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Normal hours of work – may vary as per operational requirements and responsibilities and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Normal location of work is at: 355 Church Street, Windsor ON N9A 7G9 and 3199 Lauzon Road, Windsor ON N8T 2Z7. The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with the Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian Standards of conduct. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: • Minimum Secondary School Diploma. • Additional training in Facility Services is preferred. • Knowledge of building systems is preferred. • Valid Ontario Class “G” Drivers licence; a copy of a current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment. • Medical clearance form is required. • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset. • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: • A minimum of one year of prior related experience including general familiarity with maintenance procedures and equipment. • Demonstrated professional maintenance skills in minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting. • Capable of operating hand and power tools. • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Skills and Capabilities: • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment when making decisions. • Excellent organizational skills, ability to follow detailed instructions. • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships and to deal with people in a pleasant, professional and responsible manner. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Self-motivated and disciplined. • Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation Army Windsor Centre of Hope. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $20.25 to $20.45 with a maximum of $20.65. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
