Join our team today!Job DescriptionAccountabilities:Registers patient information in computer as needed; accessions specimens; labels, numbers and aliquots specimens as required for molecular testingUses positive patient identification to ensure that all requisitions (electronic or paper), specimens, sample aliquots, portions or slides are traceableApplies specimen acceptance and rejection criteria as per established Laboratory policiesHandles requests for pathology consults as they pertain to molecular testing requests from outside institutionsFaxes reports according to protocolPrepares and ships samples to referral laboratories; includes documentation, labelling, and packaging in shipping containers at suitable conditions to maintain specimen integrityProper storage and discarding of specimens in accordance with retention policies and biohazard waste protocolsAssist with validation and verification of molecular protocolsPerforms temperature monitoring of refrigerators, freezers, incubators, ovens, water baths and ambient environment; change temperature chartsPerforms general laboratory housekeeping, disinfects benches and equipmentProper biohazard, medical and chemical waste containment, packaging and storage for pick-upReceipt of inventory and applies acceptance criteria; records and reports unacceptabilityEnters new stock into ELIS inventory system Reports stock shortages or outdated products to seniorRestock supplies on bench area as appropriateQualificationsGraduate of an accredited medical laboratory assistant (technician) training programMedical terminology an assetHistology experience an assetStrong multi-tasking, critical thinking and problem-solving skillsProven excellence working in team environment; strong interpersonal and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity, competence and professionalismProven ability to perform duties independently or as a team member with high degree of motivationAble to exercise independent judgment within scope of practicePrevious experience with Meditech, Paradigm, and Microsoft Office programs including ExcelPrevious experience with send out procedures and handling requests from outside labsMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationAdditional InformationTwo (2) positions to fillHours: Currently Days/Evenings/Nights, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)SALARY:
