Join our team today!Job DescriptionAccountabilities:Check for time stamp on all requisitions; ensure specimens are labeled according to protocol and match requisitionsRegister patient information in computer as needed; accessioning specimens, labels, numbers specimensSeparate out fresh tissue and stat specimens following protocols; alert pathologist assistantMake slides and cassettes, ensuring numbers are correct and traceable to originalClean wax molds and embedding stations after use; sweep up excess wax flakesMaintenance of embedding stations, routine stainers, tissue processors, cover slippers, solvent recycler, fridges, freezers, ovens, and other equipment as assignedDiscard blocks, slides, requisitions, and wet specimens according to retention directives and waste management protocolsCover slip slides and arrange cases in foldersPrepare specimens for referral or consultOrganize blocks and slides for cytologyDeliver containers to operating room frozen section room as requiredAppropriately disposes of hazardous wastesActively participates in the Laboratory quality management system and process improvementsOther histology duties as assignedQualificationsOntario secondary school diplomaGraduate of certified medical laboratory assistant/technician programMust have current certification and registration with OSMT and/or CSMLSMinimum two years experience working in a hospital pathology laboratory setting is preferredMedical terminology preferredKnowledge of Meditech, Paradigm and Microsoft Office programs would be an assetComfortable dealing with surgical and autopsy specimens and the deceasedExcellent organization and communication skillsProven ability to be a team playerStrong multi-tasking and problem solving skillsDemonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity, competence and professionalismMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationExcellent attendance, punctuality and work recordMay be required to travel between and work at all Osler sitesAdditional InformationTwo (2) positions to fillHours: Currently Days/Evenings/Nights, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)SALARY:
Minimum: $31.13 per hour
