The Applied Technology Group (ATG) at TRIUMF operates three compact cyclotrons for the production of medical isotopes. The group consists of 30 operators, engineers, technicians and managers. We are looking for a Mechanical Technician to join our team and work in this exciting environment. This technical position is engaged in complex development and construction of equipment for cyclotron systems. It includes also routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of complex systems as well as initiation of improvements of the cyclotron systems. This position also acts as a backup for the ATG Machine Shop Coordinator during their absence. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries out a variety of complex assignments to assemble, modify and fabricate various cyclotron sub system components with minimum supervision Consults with ATG Machine Shop Coordinator about practicality of components and devices Designs simple jigs as required Prepares and carries out a variety of assignments to maintain and repair various components Provides support for testing and manufacturing of the relevant components/systems as per operational requirements Provides input into design and experimental work to resolve design and operational problems responsible for implementing the applicable safety requirements associated with various tasks and follows all applicable TRIUMF’s procedures Participates in cyclotron system maintenance/repair Looks proactively for ways to improve systems to reduce repair effort KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of the cyclotron systems Advanced knowledge of various manufacturing and fabrication methods Strong hands on experience with assembly, modification, and fabrication of components and a proactive approach to assignments Good communication and interpersonal skills Sound judgement and demonstrated initiative Ability to adapt and react appropriately to new problems and situations as they arise NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER: You will also be required to successfully complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: A technical diploma in mechanical technology or engineering Minimum of 4 years of related experience Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident). SALARY: Annual salary would be $70,380.00 CAD plus our comprehensive benefits plan.
