In this role you will:
Develop the health and safety strategy that supports the organizations’ objective of creating a safe and healthy work place by meeting regulatory requirements and implementing industry best practices
Provide advice and guidance to senior leaders with respect to emerging trends, changes to legislation, best practices, and future health and safety initiatives
Lead and coordinate training sessions for management, supervisors, and Joint Health and Safety Committee members on roles and responsibilities and industry leading practices
Coordinate all required health and safety training throughout the organization
Provide mentorship and coaching to ensure the facility joint occupational health and safety committees are operating effectively by attending meetings to serve as a resource and provide technical support as needed.
Partner with leaders during the investigation of accidents and near-misses to identify root cause(s) and implement prevention measures
Lead the activities associated with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act including investigating incidents, reviewing accident reports, and partnering with key stakeholder on managing the return to work and modified work programs as needed
Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification to identify potential risks and implement proactive solutions
Lead the development and monitoring of safety performance indicators
The Qualifications and Experience we like to see:
University degree in relevant field or certificate in occupational health and safety
3-5 years’ experience in Health & Safety in a retail, distribution operations and/or supply chain environment
Demonstrated ability to enhance existing programs and develop large-scale health and safety programs in a retail, distribution operations and/or supply chain environment
Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislation combined with advanced training in hazard recognition, assessment, and control
Excellent understanding of incident investigation and root cause analysis
Proven success in leading across functional teams as a change agent to influence the safety culture
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to deliver positive business results
Bilingual English/French is an asset
Some domestic travel will be required to our Distribution Centres and/or Stores (less than 10%)
