About the role
We are seeking a Staff Software Developer to help lead the development of Leap, our quantum-classical Hybrid Services platform. This is a senior individual contributor role suited for an experienced engineer with deep technical expertise and innovation, a strong sense of ownership, and a passion for mentoring others and solving complex problems at scale.
As a key member of our Leap Hybrid Services team, you will play a key role in shaping our platform architecture, driving major initiatives, and guiding the engineering direction for quantum-powered hybrid applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and mentor other developers as we scale and enhance the capabilities of Leap.
What you'll do
Collaborate with product owners and lead the design and delivery of core components and services of the Hybrid platform with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, and maintainability
Participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) for Leap features, from requirements gathering, development, testing, validation, production deployment, through maintenance
Drive and promote best practices in software engineering, development operations, testing, and observability
Triage and resolve high-impact system-level issues in production
Guide code quality through reviews and design discussions; mentor developers across experience levels
Support continuous improvement of CI/CD processes and cloud-native development practices
Lead performance tuning and scalability improvements
Participate in and influence key product decisions, engineering processes, and roadmap planning
Participate in our annual Hackathon to explore and prototype innovative ideas
About You
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
8+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2–3 years in a technical leadership or staff/principal engineering capacity
Proficiency in Python and at least one other language (preferably compiled)
Demonstrated experience with designing and scaling distributed systems, microservices, and RESTful APIs
Experience working with Kubernetes for container orchestration, including deploying, managing, and scaling containerized applications
Strong debugging and performance tuning skills in cloud environments (AWS preferred)
Proven mentorship capabilities—able to elevate team capability through coaching and knowledge sharing
Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills
Passion for innovation and interest in quantum computing (prior experience not required)
Bonus Points For:
Experience designing secure and performant public-facing APIs
Contributions to open-source projects or technical community involvement
Prior experience in hybrid or HPC systems, scientific computing, or optimization problems
Solid understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (Terraform, etc.)

146,182 - 219,273 CAD per year (Burnaby)
