For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a
background in mining engineering (strong preference), geological engineering or
computer science. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op
position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding
area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a
student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled
throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to
the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a
valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.
Reporting to Teck’s Operating Systems Lead, the Operating System, Reporting &
Analytics Co-op is a frontline change agent for Operational Excellence Team’s
clients. This role supports Teck’s business strategy by implementing the
Management Operating System (MOS) to improve operational performance through the
standardization of business processes and KPIs, enabling consistent and reliable
production. The successful candidate will have the chance to cooperate with
senior leaders across the company, experts in our corporate and operations
groups. Success will require a blend of analytical and interpersonal skills. We
are specifically looking for an individual with outstanding analytical skills to
tackle large and ambiguous business problems.

Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and
environmental rules and procedures
- Contribute to the development and documentation of standard Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs) within MOS
- Support the development of routine MOS reporting dashboards using PowerBI and
other relevant supporting tools
- Assist the implementation of the performance management system for data and
reporting
- Support the enhancement and sustainment of existing tools critical to the MOS
implementation
- Work with Change Management team to support any change management activities
related to data stream as part of Management Operating System
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent
experience in mining engineering (strong preference), geological engineering
or computer science
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, especially with precision
in a technical environment
- Comfortable with engagement with site and Senior leaders
- Solid understanding of mining industry fundamentals
- Experience in the deployment of Continuous Improvement Programs within mining
industry would be considered an asset
- Able to articulate complex concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience
would understand
- Ability to work independently as well as part of the team, building diverse
relationships easily and comfortable with approaching others
- Proven ability to learn innovative technologies and platforms quickly,
accurately, and efficiently
- Comfortable with working in ambiguous and unstructured settings
- Interest in providing digital solutions in the mining industry is an asset
- Fluency in Spanish is considered an asset
- Understanding of implementing effective change management practices
- Adaptable working in ambiguous and unstructured settings
- Can organize complex problems, frame analysis, and arrive at conclusions
