Position Overview
As a Lumber Trader at Stella-Jones, you will play a key role in buying and selling softwood lumber and panels across a designated region in Canada. Leveraging market knowledge and trends, you will work closely with the Senior Lumber Trader to develop relationships with Canadian buying groups and grow your expertise in lumber trading. Key Responsibilities:
Transaction Management: Manage the buying and selling transactions of softwood lumber and panels.
Research and analyze lumber trading regulations, trends, and opportunities to inform decision-making.
Inspect softwood lumber and panels to determine grade quality.
Inventory Oversight:
Oversee wood and panel inventories across Stella-Jones plants and distribution centers, ensuring stock levels meet operational and customer needs.
Monitor and report on inventory trends to optimize turnover and minimize waste.
Handle all accessories
Relationship Building:
Develop and maintain excellent relationships with Canadian buying groups such as Rona, BMR, and Home Hardware.
Actively build and sustain relationships with existing and prospective customers to drive sales growth.
Market Expertise:
Stay informed about market regulations, pricing trends, and emerging opportunities to maintain Stella-Jones’ competitive edge.
Represent Stella-Jones at industry events to expand professional networks and promote the company.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the lumber trading operations.
Qualifications:
One (1) or more years of experience in buying and/or selling softwood lumber required; Three (3) or more years preferred
English & French proficiency required
Bachelor's degree preferred
Computer Proficiency: Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
