Oak Valley Health (OVH), is one of Ontario’s leading community healthcare organizations serving some of the fastest growing and most diverse communities across Eastern York Region and North Durham Region. Across two hospitals sites, Markham Stouffville Hospital and Uxbridge Hospital, as well as a Reactivation Care Centre, OVH provides high quality, patient-centred care to more than 468,000 patients each year. The organization offers diagnostic and emergency services and delivers clinical programs in acute care medicine and surgery, addictions and mental health, and childbirth and children’s services. We are proud to be part of the Eastern York Region North Durham Ontario Health Team. OVH has nearly 400 beds, more than 3,200 employees, 586 professional staff (including physicians, midwives, and dentists) and 930 volunteers, and a $380M budget. Oak Valley Health’s new five-year Strategic Plan (2024 - 2029) - “Integrated Care for healthier communities” - focuses on getting patients the care they need, at the right time and in the right place, and on delivering an extraordinary patient experience through an honoured to care culture. The organization is a key partner in the Eastern York Region North Durham Ontario Health Team, and has redevelopment projects underway at both hospital sites. Mission, Vision and Values Mission – Provide an extraordinary patient experienced through our honoured to care culture Vision – Integrated Care for Healthier Communities Values – Respect, Trust, Commitment, Compassion, Courage The Sites Markham Stouffville Hospital: Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital offers diagnostic and emergency services, and clinical programs in surgery, acute care medicine, cancer care and mental health The Stollery Family Centre for Childbirth and Children provides quality, patient-centered care for pregnant women, infants, and children up to age 18. The program delivers 3,100 babies each year and is home to Canada’s first Alongside Midwifery Unit. The Surgery department conducts 21,800 surgeries annually and offers short stay and same day services in a variety of therapeutic areas including general surgery and orthopedics, plus other subspecialty clinical services. Uxbridge Hospital: Oak Valley Health’s Uxbridge Hospital is a 20-bed community hospital, offering diagnostic and emergency services to people living in the community. The plan for the new Uxbridge Hospital is to build a new state-of the-art building on the existing land with support from the Provincial Government. This project will replace aging infrastructure with a new, modern hospital facility and increase capacity to meet growing demand. As part of the redevelopment of the Uxbridge site, in partnership with the Uxbridge Health Centre’s physician group, Oak Tree Medical Centre officially opened in 2021, with an impressive 37,000 square feet of state-of-the-art ambulatory care space. Additionally, plans are underway for a third building on the Uxbridge Hospital property – a long-term care home with seamless connection to the hospital. Having these three facilities co-located in a hub model will help improve the patient experience and meet the healthcare needs of the people of the Township of Uxbridge and Durham Region making it easier for families to continue receiving high-quality care closer to their home. The Reactivation Care Centre: The Reactivation Care Centre represents a collaborative and innovative approach designed to help patients who no longer require acute care service, however, find themselves waiting for an alternate care facility such as convalescent or long-term care. Accessed by a number of area hospitals, including Oak Valley Health, each hospital has developed criteria to assess which of its patients will be best suited to move to the Reactivation Care Centre. Each participating hospital occupies their own unit, treating their own patients with their clinical staff from the same hospital – a concept that fosters continuity of patient care. Strategic Plan (2024 - 2029) The new strategic plan, “Integrated Care for Healthier Communities”, is dedicated to evolving the future of healthcare – delivering the highest quality integrated care to the diverse communities served by Oak Valley Health. Through significant consultation with patients, families, community partners, and staff, Oak Valley Health was able to develop their new strategic plan focused on bringing together different organizations, health care professionals, and service providers at the right time to support the continuity of high-quality, holistic patient care. This plan entails adoption of technology and system integration to reduce costs, increase access to healthcare services and improve the quality of care delivered. The three strategic priorities are: 1. PEOPLE – our people, our culture 2. CONNECTIONS – system design and partnerships 3. GROWTH – scholarship and innovation “Woven through everything Oak Valley Health does is their commitment to consistent, safe, high-quality care and an extraordinary patient experience”.
