Your contribution!
Reporting to the Senior Director- Operations & Maintenance, you will support the team with the maintenance and refurbishment of hydro turbines. Your role is crucial to ensuring the long-term operational integrity and efficiency of our hydro turbine fleet. You will be responsible for providing expert mechanical engineering support for all phases of turbine maintenance, including routine inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and major refurbishment projects. This position will offer you a unique opportunity to work on challenging issues with rotating machinery and contribute to the reliability of clean energy infrastructure.
Your day-to-day!
Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Diagnose mechanical issues in hydro turbines, generators, and associated auxiliary systems (e.g. lubrication systems, cooling systems, wicket gates, runners, bearings, hydraulic systems).
Develop and implement solutions for mechanical failures, wear, and performance degradation.
Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Provide on-site technical support during planned and unplanned outages.
Refurbishment & Upgrades:
Lead the mechanical engineering aspects of hydro turbine refurbishment projects, from initial assessment and design to execution and commissioning, including bearing refurbishment and turbine alignment.
Develop detailed scope of work, technical specifications, and engineering drawings for repairs and upgrades.
Evaluate existing turbine components for suitability of repair or replacement, considering material properties, stress analysis, and fatigue life.
Collaborate with internal teams (electrical, civil, operations) and external contractors/vendors during project execution.
Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
Engineering Analysis & Design:
Perform engineering calculations, stress analysis, and vibration analysis related to turbine components.
Recommend design modifications and improvements to enhance turbine performance, reliability, and longevity.
Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and technical documents from vendors and consultants.
Planning & Documentation:
Perform engineering calculations, stress analysis, and vibration analysis related to turbine components.
Recommend design modifications and improvements to enhance turbine performance, reliability, and longevity.
Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and technical documents from vendors and consultants.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and enhanced operational efficiency in turbine maintenance and refurbishment.
Stay abreast of industry best practices, new technologies, and advancements in hydro turbine engineering.
Participate in the development and implementation of asset management strategies.
Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures for maintenance and refurbishment activities.
Your skills, our requirements!
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering;
A minimum of 5 years of experience including 1 to 3 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering with a strong focus on rotating machinery, preferably in the hydroelectric power generation industry;
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia or eligibility to obtain one;
Experience with relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FEA tools);
3D Mechanical design applications (Solid Works, CATIA, NX12, etc.);
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and data;
Experience with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and refurbishment of hydro turbines (Francis, Kaplan, Pelton, etc.) and associated auxiliary systems;
Experience with hydraulic systems used in hydro turbine applications;
Experience with the inspection, repair, and refurbishment of large industrial bearings (e.g., thrust bearings, guide bearings);
Solid understanding of hydraulic principles, fluid mechanics, stress analysis, vibration analysis, and material science as applied to large machinery;
Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail;
Availability to travel about 30% of time on our operating sites across BC, the on-site work may be concentrated in specific weeks, requiring employees to be on-site for consecutive days or weeks;
Excellent Business English (oral & written).

Pay Transparency Statement
Compensation for roles at Innergex varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, education, and level of experience. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
In the spirit of pay transparency we are excited to share the base salary for the position is $97 000 - $121 000, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired by Innergex, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
