Program Overview – Neighbourhood Programs, Homeward Bound
The incumbent of this position is responsible for ensuring the safety and
facilitating enriched programming for children with mothers in the Homeward
Bound program. This position is responsible to the Supervisors of Neighbourhood
Programs to ensure the efficient operation of the Homeward Bound program and
well-being of children. The incumbent of this position performs tasks of a
confidential nature. This includes information regarding children and
participants.
What You Will Do
- Assist with planning and delivering after-school activities which facilitate
educational and life skills development.
- Provide spontaneous age-appropriate activities for children in the program.
- Escort children daily from various schools to our location (via walking).
- Help prepare and cook healthy snacks.
- Assist in overseeing the safety of the children for both off-site trips and
in the onsite space (March break, PA Days, Summer break).
- Work in accordance with all relevant legislation, by-laws, program, and
organizational policies.
What You Bring to the Team
- Ability to work additional hours on school holidays, including March Break
and summer camp.
- Knowledge of child development and learning needs of children 4 – 12 years.
- Ability to work with children and parents who have experienced violence or
homelessness, and some understanding of this population’s unique issues.
- Understanding of community development and child-centred approaches.

- Proven capacity to work one-on-one with children and relate to them in a

- First Aid Certification is considered an asset
