Job Description: Job Duties Ensures the safe and careful handling of all deliveries, donations, kettle & other funds while protecting property, including donations & vehicles Takes responsibility for daily and overall safety, maintenance, operation of vehicle, & records of such Provides customers and donors with courteous and diplomatic service Maintains knowledge of legislative and company policies such as Health & Safety Regulations, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts Performs circle checks of trucks and maintains truck logs Loads and unloads goods at the warehouse, destinations, and other storage facilities Performs other duties as assigned CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Communicate with staff and volunteers in the building May communicate with guests/clients Governance Boards and Councils: None Internal: N/A External: N/A MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY: Reports directly to: Supervisor Direct reports for this position: N/A FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources May be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical working environment is in a truck/van and warehouse The performance of the job requires frequently sitting for long periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting and kneeling. The performance of the job requires frequent safety awareness, concentration when driving and maneuvering furniture. The incumbent is required to lift more than 40 pounds Works under the following disagreeable conditions: Handle garbage Isolation and monotony Odors Dirty environment Truck fumes Excessive noise Extreme temperature changes Dealing with angry people Verbal abuse Multi-tasking Is required to travel more than 70% of the time May be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to: Moving objects Driving in hazardous conditions Injury from lifting Risk of back injuries Traffic accidents injuries Falling on wet/slippery surfaces Repetitive strain injuries (e.g. back, wrist). Other potentially dangerous situations. CASUAL EXPECTATIONS AS PER COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT: • Casuals must indicate availability for 16 shifts: four must be Saturday or Sunday and two additional must be graveyard (where applicable). Casuals shall also provide availability for eight statutory holidays annually, including Christmas or New Year's. The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. education and experience Qualifications: Education, Qualifications and Certifications: • Will have completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months Valid class 5 license with appropriate certification Proof of clean driver’s abstract Note: An alternative lever of education and experience may be acceptable Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements One year but less than three years of prior related experience Skills and Capabilities: Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. The salary range is based on the Collective Agreement, not any other factors. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $22.40 to $22.78 with a maximum of $23.15. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
