Our Estimating team is currently looking to add an Estimator (Overhead Transmission Lines) to our growing team, based in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Manager, Transmission Estimating, the Estimator will compile cost estimates for services related to overhead power transmission line construction by working out how much a project is likely to cost and creating a budgets accordingly, including assessing material, labour and equipment required and analyzing quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers. Working off a bill of quantities or a set of drawings from the client, estimators provide prices for various opportunities. Our Estimators strive to build the best pricing to support competitive bidding, while ensuring profitably. The best price isn’t always the lowest one, and clients now award contracts based on quality of the service offered, as well as cost.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop estimates based on information from various sources into a complete and final estimate (with support from Engineering)
Review and validate outsourced estimates
Format estimates in Owners Reporting format
Review Design Basis, Engineering Design Documents, and Basis of Estimate
Develop complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for cost engineering and management review
Provide estimating input on complex “conceptual” transmission projects
Provide guidance to Project Managers and other non-estimating personnel
Attend and assist in project planning sessions and team meetings to provide estimating input
Interface with the estimating team, with all levels of management, clients and industry contacta
Develop business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing
Develop or assist in the development of general and project specific plans for execution, sequencing, and logistics (including construction and work procedures for specific activities related to a bid)
Develop or assist in the development of preliminary project schedules
Post-Secondary Education in a related field (Engineering, Commerce, Construction Management, etc.)
5 years of proven experience in estimating with electrical projects
Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered
Proven technical skills in estimating practices, techniques and equipment
Demonstrated understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess the level of completeness
Previous experience developing project schedules
Strong computer skills
Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
