Job Description: Job Summary The Senior Operations Accountant (SOA) is a leader of an accounting group and reports to the Assistant Director of Accounting Operations. Utilizing hands-on accounting experience and an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and organizational practices, the SOA will perform complex accounting activities and process development. Responsibilities include, but not limited to the management of the accounts payable and receivable team, accountability for the accounts payable subledger, reconciliation of the sub-ledger to the general ledger and other liability accounts, ensuring adequate internal controls are in place, and performing analysis and reports. Key Accountabilities Oversees Accounts Payable/Receivable processes including invoice verification, remittance proposals, tax rebate claims, and accurate revenue/expense coding. Ensures compliance with Salvation Army policies and relevant legislation for expenditures, accruals, journal entries, and revenue accounts. Manages monthly financial close and ensures accurate posting of financial information for reporting. Prepares annual audit schedules and supports external audit requirements. Improves efficiency by developing and maintaining systems, policies, and new processes that enhance internal controls. Mentors and advises accounting staff on policies, tax regulations, and accounting principles, ensuring accurate AP/AR corrections. Builds strong client relationships by maintaining clear, respectful communication and addressing client accounting concerns effectively. Understands client needs and provides tailored accounting solutions aligned with Salvation Army policies. Supervises accounting team by planning daily tasks, conducting performance reviews, and offering coaching and feedback. Handles team management responsibilities such as hiring, training, addressing concerns, and resolving team-related issues. Education and Experience Qualifications Bachelor Degree in Finance/ Accounting stream. The SOA must be enrolled in CPA program PEP. Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. High quality Excel spreadsheet skills Excellent knowledge of Word Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Excellent customer service skills are a must. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $55,693.49 to $69,616.86 with a maximum of $83,540.23. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
