The Category Manager – Mechanical and Engineered components is responsible for defining and executing the global sourcing strategy for different mechanical components like machined parts, injection molded, magnets, optics etc. This role works closely with local purchasing teams across divisions to ensure that sourcing strategies are consistently implemented, driving cost competitiveness, supplier consolidation, and supply risk mitigation.

As Category Manager - Mechanical and Engineered Components, you must be able to
Define and deploy a comprehensive global category strategy for mechanical and engineering components—including precision-machined parts, optics, magnets, seals, molded plastics, and custom assemblies—ensuring alignment with product designs, manufacturing requirements, and corporate objectives.
Co-operate with Machining business group on Make or Buy decisions
Identify, assess, and partner with strategic suppliers to consolidate the supplier base, enhance performance, mitigate risk, and drive cost competitiveness across a diverse range of materials and processes.
Partner with local purchasing teams to ensure category strategies are applied effectively at site level.
Monitor market conditions, commodity pricing, and process capabilities across a variety of materials (metals, polymers, optical glass, magnetic alloys, etc.) to guide sourcing strategies, drive cost reductions and support cost modeling and make/buy analysis.
Lead global sourcing initiatives and commercial negotiations and establish global framework agreements, while supporting local procurement teams in operational negotiations as needed.
Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to align sourcing strategies with technical requirements.
Drive proactive supplier risk assessment and mitigation strategies and coordinate with local teams to implement action plans that ensure continuity of supply and minimize business exposure.
Champion the use of procurement tools (e.g., SAP) to track performance, enforce compliance, and enable data-driven decision-making.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing between global sourcing and local purchasing functions and harmonize and enhance sourcing processes and methodologies across different sites.
Drive measurable impact through KPIs, including cost savings and TCO reduction, supplier consolidation ratio, sourcing cycle time, supplier risk rating and mitigation actions completed, % of spend with preferred suppliers etc.
What makes you an asset to our team
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in strategic sourcing or category management, ideally in a high-tech or manufacturing environment.
Proven track record in supplier negotiations and developing strategic partnerships.
Experience with ERP systems (preferably SAP) and procurement tools.
Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders.
ERP proficiency (SAP or equivalent).
Strategic mindset combined with operational execution.
Systems thinking.
Global business acumen and cultural intelligence.
Supplier relationship management and risk awareness.
Master negotiator, consistently securing advantageous terms.
