This is a bargaining unit position in the Professional Employees Association.
All candidates must hold a valid B.C. TRB Teacher’s Certificate and be legally able to work in Canada.
Summary
St. Margaret’s School (SMS) is Western Canada’s only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and W_SÁNEC Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 7–12). St. Margaret’s School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Programme, and we are a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).
St. Margaret’s School is seeking an inspiring, collaborative, and forward-thinking Instructional Leader of Staff and Student Wellness to guide the development and implementation of a comprehensive wellness vision for both students and staff. As a member of our team, the Instructional Leader will champion a proactive approach to social-emotional learning, mental health, and executive functioning, supporting a thriving school culture rooted in care, connection, and personal growth.
This leadership position blends instructional excellence with strategic planning and innovation, with the goal of embedding wellness practices across curricular and co-curricular programs.

Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Vision
Develop and lead a whole-school wellness strategy aligned with the school’s mission and values.
Serve as a thought partner to teachers and school leaders in integrating wellness, SEL, and executive functioning into teaching practices and classroom culture.
Chair the School Wellness Committee and work collaboratively with the Personalized Learning Team, advisors, and school counsellors.
Staff Development
Design and facilitate meaningful professional learning experiences focused on wellness, executive functioning, and trauma-informed practice.
Mentor and coach staff to foster positive relationships, build inclusive classroom environments, and adopt proactive student support strategies.
Student Programming
Support the design and implementation of wellness-focused programming, including the Advisory/Homeroom program, mindfulness and SEL initiatives, and health & life skills education.
Collaborate on wellness campaigns, student leadership initiatives, and proactive education around mental health, sleep, digital balance, nutrition, and physical activity.
Collaboration & Community Building
Partner with families, staff, and students to promote a culture of belonging and resilience.
Stay current with educational research and best practices in wellness and translate them into actionable strategies for the school community.
Requirements
Current and valid Teacher Certification through the Teacher Regulation Branch
Strong understanding of adolescent development, mental health, and executive functioning (required)
Experience in instructional leadership, coaching, or program coordination
Proven ability to lead professional development and collaborate across teams
Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centred learning
Background in counselling, educational psychology, or wellness education (asset but not required)
Demonstrates exemplary teaching
Demonstrates a proficient understanding of the BC curriculum
Ability and desire to lead, to organize and to collaborate with others
Excellent communication skills
Embodies a growth mindset
Experience working as part of a learning team, as well as leading change
Commitment to and evidence of continued professional growth
