About the Role
Are you looking for your next opportunity in the insurance industry? MutualONE is seeking an experienced Underwriting Team Lead to join our underwriting team. Reporting to the Manager of Underwriting Services, you will be responsible for assisting with and supporting the profitable growth of the Insurance portfolio at MutualONE. You will manage work distribution amongst the team to ensure that department Service Levels are met and ensure brokers and agents are being responded to in a timely, professional manner making underwriting decisions that will drive underwriting profitability. You will be a highly supportive and engaging leader who can lead indirectly, virtually and via others.
You will work closely with Manager of Underwriting Services in providing training and mentoring to underwriters as well as maintaining some underwriting duties such as quoting and servicing of accounts.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, coach and develop a team of underwriters to achieve business targets.
Foster a positive and high-performing team culture with a strong focus on accountability and results
Oversee daily underwriting workflow operations, including monitoring quote, endorsement, and renewal volumes, and redistributing work as needed to maintain service levels.
Monitor and report on team performance and key business metrics to the Manager of Underwriting Services; contribute to employee performance reviews by providing relevant feedback and insights.
Foster a positive team culture.
Work with team to improve underwriting processes and efficiencies.
Ensure underwriting decisions comply with company policies, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite.
Underwrite key and complex accounts while supporting team members with guidance on challenging files and contributing to the overall profitability of the portfolio.
Ensure exceptional customer service and responsiveness to agent and broker enquiries.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents to maximize business opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Possess post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience
Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation required
Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation, or progress toward it, considered an asset
Have a minimum of 4 years underwriting experience in all lines. (Farm, Residential, Automobile)
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate and develop a high-performing team.
A results-driven mindset with a track record of achieving and exceeding targets.
Excellent relationship management skills, particularly with brokers and stakeholders.
Strong awareness and knowledge of the insurance market.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills to drive performance improvements.
Ability to make recommendations to improve underwriting processes and efficiencies.
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Completion of a Criminal Record Check will be required
