The HSE Coordinator is responsible for providing support in planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining WesTower Communications’ health and safety program. This position will provide coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements of the wireless and wireline construction divisions, including training, orientations, incident tracking, investigations, recommendations of corrective actions, safety compliance, management of complex disability and provincial workers’ compensation claims, and involvement with HSE best practices and procedures. This individual serves as the primary point of contact for the Health and Safety Team. This role requires a strong understanding of Canadian compensation boards, effective teamwork, and clear communication.

Work Duties
Supply direct Health and Safety support to the operational site level leadership and health and safety committee representatives.
Assist with the creation, facilitation, tracking, and coordination of training, including annual training and third-party training.
Perform risk assessments and develop safe work procedures for corporate and regional purposes.
Provide guidance and support to operations to meet Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and corporate expectations.
Lead the facilitation of serious investigations, including recordable injuries, near misses, and critical incidents.
Assist with OHS inspections and compliance with resulting orders.
Support the regional operations in preparation for Group Health and Safety Management Systems audits and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
Support the HSE team and regional operations in developing and implementing Health and Safety priorities, guidance documents, best practices, and policies.
Support the HSE team in the implementation of both corporate and regional Health, Safety, and Environment directives.
Assist with the utilization of internal reporting tools to meet reporting requirements.
Support regional operations in the implementation and maintenance of programs such as Site Docs and Geotab.
Assist in developing and sharing regional communications with all stakeholders, including key lessons, best practices, alerts, and KPIs.
Conduct inspections on the quality of health and safety documentation.
Monitor and report on the overall effectiveness of implementing corporate Health, Safety & Environment plans.
Provide support to site leadership in preparing site-specific safety plans for safety meetings and toolbox talks.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and internal policies related to disability leave and accommodation.
Manage and monitor workers’ compensation claims across multiple provinces from intake to resolution, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Provide direct support for complex cases, such as psychological injuries and occupational diseases, overseeing documentation, communication, and adherence to timelines.
Serve as the primary point of contact for all disability and workers’ compensation cases, collaborating with HR, Safety, Payroll, and Operations to ensure seamless coordination.
Ensure management receives clear, timely, and consistent updates about employee claim status, work restrictions, and return-to-work planning to facilitate successful outcomes.
Maintain accurate, confidential records (claims files, correspondence, RTW agreements, medical updates).
Prepare and deliver monthly reports to management, summarizing claim status, trends, return-to-work progress, and compliance metrics.
Develop and deliver training and awareness materials on absence management, claim procedures, and manager responsibilities.
Conduct periodic case audits, identify gaps, escalate concerns as needed, and recommend process enhancements to ensure continuous improvement.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of experience handling complex disability claims.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a health & safety professional.
Post-secondary certification (degree, diploma, certificate) in Occupational Health & Safety preferred.
Civil construction industry experience, specializing in directional drilling and aerial placement, preferred.
Strong understanding of Canadian disability laws and regulations (e.g., Human Rights legislation, Workers’ Compensation Acts).
CRSP, CSO, or NCSO would be an asset.
Excellent communication skills and mindfulness.
Proficient in claims systems and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
Bilingual (English and French) would be an asset.
Familiarity with hoisting and rigging, working at heights and fall protection, directional drilling, and aerial work activities.
Valid driver's license.
Working Conditions

Physical ability to lift 25lbs.
Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
Regular Site visits will be required for inspections, work observations, and general HSE and equipment coordination support.
