Role Description
Reporting to the General Counsel and Director of Legal Services, the Legal Counsel, Litigation provides advice and general guidance to different client groups operating across the University, such as Faculties and administrative units, on a variety of matters and fields of law, mostly in the context of civil, commercial & construction litigation.

Involved in a wide range of student-related matters, including promotion, discipline, and management of disability-driven accommodations.

Review of affiliation and inter-institutional agreements with national and international partners.

Participate in policy development and provide advice on compliance with applicable Québec and federal legislation regarding the Higher Education sector.

Support the University’s Secretariat responsible for access to information and privacy matters.

Work in a cooperative environment with cross-training among in-house counsels.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (B.C.L., LL.B.)

Member of the Barreau du Québec

8 Years Related Experience
Requirements
-
Knowledge and experience in commercial & construction litigation and civil procedure.

Knowledge of Privacy and Access to Information, as applicable in Québec, Canada, and foreign jurisdictions (GDPR).

Knowledge of administrative law and Human Rights law as applied to student matters.

Experience in drafting and negotiation of contracts.

Excellent drafting skills and strong ability to articulate challenges and solutions, verbally and in writing.

Results-oriented with excellent multi-tasking and prioritizing skills.

Good negotiating skills.

Proactive, pragmatic, and creative approach to dispute resolution.

Ability to work in a complex collegial environment.

Fully bilingual in English and French (spoken and written).
