ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic Arizona is actively recruiting a Transfusion Medicine physician interested in developing a career at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. The successful candidate must have strong knowledge, and skill sets in all aspects of Transfusion Medicine, including immunohematology, management of transfusion products, apheresis, stem cell collection and processing, coagulation, and regulatory compliance. They will join our growing practice and contribute to our patient care, educational, and scholarly activities. Candidates with strong clinical experience and interest in blood banking and apheresis are highly desired.
The Transfusion Medicine service at Mayo Clinic in Arizona currently supports a 353-bed tertiary care hospital, which includes general adult medicine and multiple complex specialty practices, such as hematology/oncology, solid organ and stem cell transplantation, neurology, and cardiology. The Mayo Clinic Arizona Phoenix campus is experiencing exciting growth, and plans are in development to expand clinical practice space.
The Transfusion Medicine section is currently staffed by five full-time, board-certified Transfusion Medicine specialists who provide blood product transfusion support, supervise apheresis procedures, manage cellular therapy activities, and offer clinical consultations. Approximately 36,000 blood products are transfused, and over 2,380 apheresis procedures are performed annually.
The successful candidate will have an MD, DO, or equivalent degree, be board-certified or board-eligible in clinical pathology and transfusion medicine, and must qualify for Arizona medical licensure and academic rank at Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. Applicants must have experience in all aspects of clinical transfusion medicine practice, including immunohematology, transfusion service, cellular therapy, apheresis, and laboratory and clinical coagulation. Candidates will cover after-hours/weekend/holiday on-call activities for therapeutic apheresis, blood bank/transfusion, coagulation services, and the clinical laboratory. The selected candidate will participate in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, engage in scholarly activities, work in a team-oriented manner, and undertake leadership responsibilities as needed.
