What you’ll do:
Reporting to the Business-to-Business Division Manager, the Ag Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department and is responsible for providing leadership in the areas of client relationships/customer service; sales, margin and other expense controls; human resources; ordering, inventory control and administrative duties. The Ag Manager will exemplify and promote the Co-op brand.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Living the Brand
To consistently represent the Co-op Brand; to know, understand and live Gardenland Co-op’s vision, mission and values.
To be a Co-op ambassador by understanding the Cooperative Retailing System and have a proficient understanding of the cooperative’s lifetime membership benefits.
Consistently deliver exceptional service to all stakeholders.
Management
Provide leadership, direction and oversight to the staff.
Prepare, administer, and achieve budgeted goals as it relates to the pricing, sales, margins, expenses and inventory.
Provide leadership to the team, including goal setting, performance management, training and
developing team members. Ensure a healthy workplace culture.
Build strong customer relationships and lead the ag team to do the same.
Agronomy
Provide leadership in the areas of client services, including crop planning, agronomic troubleshooting, fertility and crop protection recommendations.
Oversee the development and administration of an effective farm contact program, promoting the services and product lines available.
Manage supplier programming to the benefit of growers and Co-op.
Assist in all areas of the operation, including blending fertilizer and manually loading product.
Purchasing, Sales, Marketing
Communicate with division manager to ensure inventory is in place to match demand.
Provide leadership to Ag Team to meet sales and margin budgets.
Responsible for accurate pricing, sales and inventory management of crop protection products.
Participate in and support the Co-op Retailing System Programs.
Coordinate information meetings and tours for growers, utilizing supplier support, to enhance Co-op Agro awareness, credibility and involvement with key growers.
Promote finance programs, FCC and other Co-op approved programs.
Safety and Administration
Maintain the Chemical Warehouse to CPI standards, including the audit process.
Oversee the completion and follow through of all safety and environmental policies and procedures and ensure standards are achieved.
Responsible for coordination and oversight of all safety, maintenance and asset protection policies.
Responsible for the safe handling and storage of inventory and equipment.
Personal Development
Attend FCL and industry training seminars.
Attend supplier and research information day/tours where possible.
Seek ongoing professional development in the areas of management and leadership.
Qualifications
Valid class 5 license. (Class 3 with air, or Class 1 an asset)
Post-Secondary degree or diploma in agriculture. (A combination of education and/or experience may be considered, with consideration being given to the mix of knowledge, competencies and skills acquired.)
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to develop new relationships and maintain existing relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively in English; verbally and in written format.
Intermediate level ability for computer usage, in particular Word, Excel.
Must be a self-starter and able to achieve results with minimal supervision.
