PROFILE
The Innovation Advisor will play a critical role in advancing the firm’s
innovation and legal technology strategy. Reporting to the Director of Practice
Technology, the Advisor will support the design, implementation, and adoption of
legal technology solutions—with a strong focus on generative AI—that enhance
lawyer efficiency, client value, and firm-wide competitiveness. This role is
ideal for someone who combines project management and business analysis skills
with a passion for innovation, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is
eager to help drive modernization initiatives across practice groups.
This position can be based in any of our Canadian offices!
RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Innovation Advisor, you will play a key role in modernizing legal practice
by driving the adoption of generative AI and legal technology. Your
responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with lawyers and practice group leaders to understand
workflows, challenges, and opportunities for technology and AI integration.
- Documenting business requirements and mapping current processes to identify
areas for AI-driven efficiency.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of tailored AI-enabled solutions
for specific legal practice areas.
- Leading project planning, onboarding, training, and ongoing support for
generative AI and other legal tech tools.
- Acting as a primary contact for day-to-day questions, feedback, and
troubleshooting related to AI tools and processes.
- Capturing and sharing success stories to promote adoption and reduce
resistance to change.
- Collecting and analyzing data on technology usage, adoption, and
effectiveness, and preparing reports and dashboards to track KPIs and ROI.
- Translating business needs into actionable insights to continuously improve
AI programs.
- Monitoring emerging trends in generative AI and legal technology and
preparing briefing notes for leadership.
- Evaluating pilot programs and proof-of-concept projects using structured
business analysis approaches.
- Coordinating vendor engagement activities including meetings, demos, and
feedback sessions.
- Designing and delivering workshops, training sessions, and awareness
campaigns focused on practical AI applications.
- Contributing to internal communications and marketing efforts to promote
innovation and highlight success stories.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in law, business, or technology.
- 2–4 years of experience in legal technology, practice support, innovation, or
professional services.
- Strong project management and business analysis skills, with a proven ability
to coordinate initiatives and translate requirements into deliverables.
- Familiarity with generative AI tools and their application in legal
workflows.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint), project management
software, and data visualization platforms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage
confidently with lawyers and staff.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to gather, interpret, and present data
effectively.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple
priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative team player with strong relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable learning, piloting, and championing new AI-driven tools.
- Curious, adaptable, and motivated by innovation and continuous improvement in
the legal sector.

The starting range for this role is $85,000 to $110,000. Starting salary will be
determined based on an applicant’s individual skills, competencies and unique
qualifications. Gowling WLG employees have the potential to exceed this range
based on tenure and performance.
