Our Architecture team is a diverse group of experienced System Architects with backgrounds in a wide range of Aerospace and Defence Programs at General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada. The team works very closely with our Canadian Department of National Defence counterparts to shape the very systems the Canadian Army is currently deploying in Theatre. Centred in Land C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance), the focus of the team is bringing together previously separate systems and understanding the key interfaces between these systems. Additionally, a firm understanding of the operational context in which the system is exercised is another variable the team must consider.Based in either our Ottawa or Calgary facility, the ideal candidate would undertake a number of different initiatives, including (but not limited to) the launch of trade study activities, developing network designs, analyzing legacy solutions, and coordinating software/systems solutions.Key Responsibilities:Collaborate with customer stakeholders to translate business/operational requirements into technical solutions for the engineering teams at largeSupports the team on architecture decisions for complex enterprise and distributed systemsShape overall technical scope and requirements for the LC5ISR System of Systems in Theatre, working closely with GDMS-C and customer leadershipReview, create, and contribute to Enterprise System Models for trade study analysis and models developed by other teams within the program.Document technical capabilities for future reference and training.Develop program and technological roadmaps aligned with business strategy and system evolutionMentor junior engineersDrive technical innovation and best practices adoptionQualificationsBachelor’s degree or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.Minimum 8+ years of practical experience with a focus on software, hardware, or systems engineering/architectureProven experience leading large-scale system designsAbility to work effectively both independently and in a team environmentDemonstrated success in collaboratively working with a diverse set of stakeholders towards a common goalExperience with communication systems and technology in an aerospace and defence contextAsset Qualifications:Strong understanding of software and system development life cycles.Familiarity with software development trends, analysis tools, technologies, enterprise, and systems modelling tools.Enterprise architecture frameworksCloud migration strategies and cloud technologiesSecurity and compliance expertiseDevOps practices implementationVirtualization trends and technology (Microservices, Containers, Virtual Machines)It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed.
