About the Role
Sunshine Village is seeking an experienced and solutions-oriented Occupational Health & Safety Specialist to lead and support safety initiatives across all areas of our resort operations. This senior-level position plays a critical role in maintaining a healthy, compliant, and safety-conscious work environment for our employees, volunteers, contractors, and guests.
Reporting to the Vice President, Legal and Compliance, the OHS Specialist works cross-functionally with all departments, providing leadership in program development, training, incident investigation, and compliance monitoring. Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Training
Design, implement, and refine standardized OHS programs and training materials tailored to the unique needs of a large, multifaceted resort.
Collaborate with department leaders to develop and deliver job-specific safety training.
Site Inspections & Risk Assessment
Conduct regular audits and inspections of work sites and practices to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal standards.
Identify risks, track corrective actions, and support departments in achieving continuous safety improvements.
Incident Management
Lead or support the investigation of workplace incidents, ensuring thorough documentation, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions.
Contribute to additional reviews and make evidence-based recommendations to prevent recurrence.
Committee Oversight & Collaboration
Provide leadership and administrative support to the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
Maintain active communication with internal teams, suppliers, and contractors to promote a consistent safety culture across all operations.
Reporting & Compliance
Manage OHS-related data collection and reporting, including training records, audits, certifications, and permits.
Prepare reports, track compliance metrics, and present findings to stakeholders as required.
Oversee budgets related to safety equipment, services, and training resources.
Operational Support
Support departments with on-the-ground safety initiatives and provide coaching to supervisors and staff.
Participate in relevant meetings and contribute to the broader success of operational goals.
What you bring to the mountain:
Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, HSE, or a related field.
CRSP, CSP, or NCSO designation is an asset.
3–10 years of OHS experience, preferably in tourism, recreation, construction, or other fast-paced, multi-site industries.
Strong understanding of workplace safety legislation, standards, and best practices.
Proven ability to lead investigations, conduct risk assessments, and develop practical safety solutions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization.
Technically proficient in safety documentation, training systems, and reporting tools.
Able to balance office-based work with time spent on-site in varied weather and terrain.
