About the Role:
Corus Entertainment is looking for a Live Closed Captioner reporting into the Reporting to the live Closed Captioning Supervisor. Working on a team to cover a variety of shifts which vary between an early start (4am) as well as shifts that go into the early morning, weekends and holidays, The position will begin with a shift of 4pm-Midnight. Live closed captioners anticipate what will be spoken in live events, build accurate topic models, assess the quality of ASR outputs, and make adjustments daily for live programs airing coast-to-coast on Corus entertainment’s Global stations, as well as others within Corus Entertainment’s Quay Media Services division.
You will contribute by:
Stay up-to-date with all forms of news and arrive before events to research and prepare.
Stay up-to-date with all possible weather or travel issues that could impact commute time and
adjust routines regularly to ensure punctuality & reliability for live events.
Ability to cover client requests, scheduling and technical issues during eight-hour shift.
Extensive knowledge of encoders, client schedules, Live CC ASR troubleshooting, working with engineering and vendors to fix issues in a timely fashion.
Excellent verbal and communication skills to be able to answer internal/external client calls and emails.
Must be willing to work onsite with a positive attitude and respect for a thriving and bustling workspace.
Ability to provide live closed captioning via respeak technology for on-air broadcast events considered an asset.
Constantly refine topic models and techniques to achieve 98% or higher NER scoring accuracy.
Potential for weekend & holiday work requirements.
Have the ability to work in a team environment or independently while being flexible and open to learning new experiences in a fast-paced changing environment.
Contributions to offline ASR transcriptions and contributing to offline closed captioning workflow as required between live events.
Skills and experience you will bring:
College Diploma or University Degree considered an asset.
Excellent researching ability to anticipate spoken nouns, and anticipate how an ASR engine will evaluate the phonetics of those spoken nouns and build models accordingly.
Excellent English spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Ability to punctuate in real-time during situations where speakers are speaking rapidly considered an asset.
A minimum of 98.0 NER utilizing optimized ASR.
Previous closed captioning, live closed captioning, court reporting, transcription, respeaking or on-air journalism experience from a recognized company considered an asset.
Experience with ASR technology considered an asset.
Detail-oriented and highly reliable.
French language writing, respeaking, and proofreading ability seen as a considerable asset.
Technical proficiency with basic audio path design and to engage with and troubleshoot basic sound mixers.
Updating your topic models daily to constantly improve quality and reduce delays.
Basic working knowledge with Computers and MS Office Suites.
Ability to help department as required on respeak transcripts or offline closed captioning files between live events.
