About the Role:
Global News Toronto is looking for a dynamic and experienced Show Producer to help lead our noon and flagship evening newscasts. In this pivotal role, you will shape the tone, style, and direction for our local broadcasts. The successful candidate will be an experienced and creative producer who is passionate about local news and understands what it takes to create innovative and impactful programming. This position reports directly to the Supervising Producer and is a Group 4 position under the current collective agreement.
You will contribute by:
Overseeing the daily production of Global News at Noon, including building rundowns.
Writing stories, teases and headlines.
Vetting scripts and reporter content.
Determining the look and style of News at Noon, Global News at 5 and Global News at 6, based on established criteria.
Spearheading our visual storytelling.
Pitching and producing original and compelling content.
Being a strong leader on the editorial team.
Maintaining Global News editorial standards.
Planning, selecting, and requesting production and resource elements.
Taking live programs to air in a control room setting, in a calm and decisive manner.
Working with the network team and affiliates to co-ordinate coverage and resources.
Managing news reads and records in a control room setting, in a calm and decisive manner.
Planning and producing special events and breaking news coverage.
Performing other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring:
A university degree or equivalent post-secondary education in a broadcast-related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in television broadcasting, preferably in a major market.
The ability to respond quickly and knowledgeably to breaking news.
Strong editorial judgment.
Strong news writing skills.
Exemplary leadership and communication skills.
Experience taking shows to air in a control room.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
Ability to handle the demands and pressure of broadcast deadlines.
Ability to work well in a team setting.
Must possess some technical skills, including knowledge of lineup management. systems and editing programs.
Demonstrate a high comfort level providing clear, constructive feedback.
Possess strong organizational skills.
