Job Description: KEY Accountabilities: • Interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner. • Protect the integrity of all donated items. • Responsible for accurate completion of all customer transactions including cash and debit sales. • Contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards. • Opening and closing of store following store procedures when required. • Process raw materials by loading/unloading, sorting, packing, pricing and storing donations. • Possess knowledge of stock in order to respond to customer enquiries by phone/in person. • Pay particular attention to store security, by monitoring activity within the store. • Handle the merchandise in a safe and organized manner; assist in stock rotation. • Contribute to the control of inventory by receiving, sorting, and pricing as per directions. • Assist with store layout plans to attract customers, which include window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”. • Replenish inventory levels based on supervisor’s directions. • Remove inventory from sales floor as directed. • Maintain the proper sorting and processing of all donated goods, ensuring compliance with quality standards. • Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the store, tidy up and restock shelves, clean, sweep, dust, and mop as necessary. • Abide by store policy and procedures. • Assist with inventory reconciliation (cycle counting). • Provide excellent service to guests and donors. • Act as a Team Lead/Working Supervisor for Store Associates only in the absence of the Store Manager. • May be required to show some operations and provide on-the-job-training to staff. • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment through compliance with Health & Safety regulations. • Performs other work-related duties as assigned. Health & Safety: The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to: • Physical attacks by others • Exposure to infectious diseases • Exposure to toxic chemicals (e.g. toxic spills) • Moving objects • Sharp objects (e.g. needle pricks) • Electrical hazards • Repetitive strain injuries (e.g. back, wrist) CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Governance Boards and Councils: Internal: Administration, Thrift Store management and staff. External: Donors, clients, contractors. MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Reports directly to Carol-Anne Phillips Direct reports: None May show others how to perform certain procedures. FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: Moderate material responsibility. • May occasionally handle petty cash Working Conditions: The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Physical effort; stretching, lifting up to 30lbs with no assistance, bending, twisting, pushing • Exposure to fumes, dust and temperature fluctuations. • Dealing with angry and/or verbally abusive people • Varied work with periods of repetitious tasks. Two years of experience in a store or warehouse environment. Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered. Skills and Capabilities: Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures • Proven interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. • Physically capable of lifting/carrying up to 30 lbs on a frequent basis with no assistance from others Attention to details and adherence to established deadlines Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $18.76 with a maximum of $22.51. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
