Reports To: Housing Manager
Job Purpose:
The Building Maintenance Coordinator supports the Cold Lake First Nations Housing & Infrastructure Departments by providing general home repairs, preventative maintenance, and resident support. This position helps ensure that CLFN housing units are safe, functional, and maintained to a high standard, which contributes to the health and well-being of community members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General Maintenance & Repairs
Perform day-to-day maintenance on Nation-owned homes and buildings, including plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, and electrical repairs (within certification and safety limits).
Carry out seasonal maintenance tasks such as furnace filter changes, gutter cleaning, weatherproofing, and snow/ice removal around housing units if required.
Repair or replace household fixtures, flooring, windows, and doors as needed.
Preventative Maintenance & Inspections
Assist with regular inspections of CLFN housing units to identify maintenance issues.
Complete work orders and document repairs in a timely and accurate manner.
Report major repairs or safety hazards to the Housing Supervisor for further action.
Resident & Community Support
Respond promptly and respectfully to maintenance requests from CLFN members.
Communicate clearly with residents about the work being done and expected timelines.
Provide education to tenants, where needed, on basic home care and preventative upkeep.
Health & Safety
Ensure homes comply with safety standards (check smoke detectors, CO2 detectors, and fire extinguishers).
Follow all workplace health and safety guidelines, WHMIS standards, and CLFN policies.
Use tools, vehicles, and equipment safely and responsibly.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Certification in a skilled trade (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry) is required.
Previous experience in maintenance, construction, or trades (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc.).
Knowledge of housing systems and general building repair practices.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation required.
WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, or other safety training is an asset.
Experience working with First Nations housing or in a community-based setting.
Knowledge of Cold Lake First Nations values, traditions, and community priorities.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in Cold Lake First Nations homes and community buildings.
May require flexibility for after-hours emergency repairs.
Exposure to dust, chemicals, noise, and outdoor weather conditions.
Physically capable of performing manual labour.
Capable of lifting 50+ lbs.
Capable of working in different environments.
