The Purchasing Agent role is responsible for releasing and maintaining the integrity of Supplier purchase orders needed to replenish inventory in our Distribution Centers and product that is shipping direct to the end customer. This position is critical to the success of the Supply Chain operation by acting as liaison with Suppliers to get vital information, problem-solving issues to avoid order delays, and expediting shipments to deliver a world class Customer experience. Location/Division Specific Information This position sits in the Ottawa site of Thermo Fisher Scientific, part of the Customer Channels Group (CCG). Represented by our Fisher Scientific brand, we deliver choice and convenience to our customers. A day in the Life: Owns the day to day purchase order execution and ensure purchase order integrity throughout life cycle; from correct and timely release of order until receipt in distribution center or at end customer. Act as frontline support for internal and external customers that have supplier purchase order inquires, issues, or change requests. Display integrity and intensity in responding to requests and carrying out business needs while meeting service and turnaround expectations in high volume environment. Develop relationships with suppliers to allow for successful critical information flow necessary to manage business and improve customer experience. Find opportunities and partner with suppliers to get updated promise dates on past due orders to provide end customer order status updates. Expedite shipments with suppliers based upon customer requests and high dollar backlog orders to increase revenue recognition. Review and complete daily workflows that flag purchase order exceptions to mitigate risk of excess and obsolete inventory. Collaborate and communicate effectively with Supplier Performance Analyst to address habitual transactional issues or operational process improvement opportunities with suppliers. Working with multiple cross functional partners including Suppliers, Customer Service, Transportation, Accounts Payable, Distribution Operations, and Supplier Relations to assure delivery expectations of our customers are met. Keys to Success: Education Bachelor's degree with 2+ years’ meaningful experience Experience 2+ years Supply Chain or meaningful experience. Relevant working experience as a buyer, senior buyer, purchasing specialist agent or officer. Degree in engineering, supply chain management, operations or business administration Customer centric mentality. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Validated prioritization and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and act with urgency in high volume environment.
