The primary responsibility of the Senior NDE Technician is to efficiently represent Seaspan Victoria Shipyards interest related to specifications, welding code, standard or section compliance and the required process controls. This role provides NDE and Quality Control support to all vessel repair activities including Naval vessel’s surface and submarines, coast guards, BC ferries and commercial operators. The incumbent collaborates with all VSL stakeholders as required for effective oversight of the in-process controls. Collaborating with the VSL Welding QC Supervisor, it is encouraged from this role to perform NDE.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at Victoria Shipyards – 825 Admirals Road Victoria, B.C.
What you'll do
Performs daily in-process or final NDE of work. Documents and communicates results to responsible supervisors.
Reviews NDT requests and results to make sure specifications, class rules, work instructions and SOPs requirements have been met for each NDT.
Ensures the accurate non-destructive inspection techniques and extent has been applied to meet industry standards and/or customer specifications
Provides functional and technical direction to production team regarding NDE and QC inspection
Technical review of NDE subcontractor's procedures and examination reports.
Responsible for the application of the requirements of applicable codes and standards, including DEF STAN, ASME BPVC sections, CSA W 47.1 / W59, W47.2 / W59.2, AWS, DNV, Lloyd’s, ABS, IACS, and BS EN ISO.
Establish NDE techniques, interpret codes, standards, and specifications
Review and acceptance of the following documentation on completion of welding activities like NDE reports, applicable weld history records e.g. Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) and Pre heat, interpass controls, and Post Weld Heating records
Carrying out review and insertion of the following welding related documentation for production issued work packages: Inspection and test plans, relevant Drawings, Welding Procedure Specifications, Welder Performance Qualifications, Welding sequence for distortion control, material certification, relevant weld history records (Depicted by class / category) and NDE requirements/reports.
What you'll bring
Current valid CGSB MT and UT level II (UT Level I might be considered)
Minimum 8 years experience working as a NDE/Welding QC inspector/coordinator – Structure and Piping.
Any other CGSB Level II Certification is desirable.
CWB CSA W178.2 level 1 or 2 Welding Inspector certification (or AWS CWI to receive CWB certification) is desirable.
Relevant trade experience is desirable.
Certification and comprehensive training in RT is highly desirable
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Work with minimum supervision
Strong attention to details, problem solving and analytical skills
Proficient digital literacy
Ability to acquire Industrial Security – NATO Secret designation
Ability to address problems and lead time optimally

The estimated salary for this position is $112,500-$137,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
