Join our team today!Job DescriptionThe COPD Asthma Educator is responsible for providing respiratory care and education to admitted inpatients as well as outpatients in the Emergency Department. Additional responsibilities include assisting with diagnostic testing in the Respiratory Outpatient Clinic. There will be a specific focus on supporting patients with COPD to ensure that they receive comprehensive care, in collaboration with the healthcare team, during their hospital stay. Other responsibilities include facilitation of referrals for all respiratory patients to appropriate outpatient resources within the Ontario Health Team.Accountabilities:Consulting as a resource to the patient care team regarding cardio-respiratory technical and/or clinical issues for adult and pediatric populations which includes comprehensive education for chronic health conditions and medication used in the treatment of these conditions, such as COPD and Asthma.Consulting with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team in devising a plan of care including COPD and Asthma Action Plans.Utilizes evidenced based guidelines in the practice of respiratory therapyReporting workload measures and participating in quality assurance activitiesOther related duties as assignedQualificationsGraduate of an accredited respiratory therapy programMember in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of OntarioCurrent BCLS and CRE certificationMinimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience required. Educator experience, preferredMember of CSRT and RTSO preferredCTE certification is considered an assetStrong knowledge of asthma-COPD including symptoms, triggers, treatment therapies, environmental control, disease prevention and managementThorough knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Thoracic Society Asthma Consensus Guidelines and Canadian Thoracic Society COPD Management GuidelinesKnowledge of best practice guidelines in asthma-COPD managementKnowledge of best practice guidelines in smoking cessationStrong understanding of diagnostic testing, specifically peak flow monitoring, oximetry and spirometry testingAble to provide education to all age groupsStrong understanding of educational techniques and methods required by different patients Ability to adjust educational technique to meet individual patient needsAble to complete a full respiratory assessmentActively participates in continuing educationDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively and supportively in a multidisciplinary teamDemonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skillsDemonstrated clinical expertise, critical-thinking and problem-solving abilitiesMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationExcellent work performance and attendance recordTravel between and work at all Osler sites as operationally requiredAdditional InformationHours: Currently Days 8 hours shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)SALARY:
